World Refugee Day Community Festival — poster & postcard design
A bright, culturally rich event poster and promotional postcard for the 2014 World Refugee Day Community Festival, created for MDA. The artwork combined vibrant blue tones, decorative white flourishes, cultural photography and a central string-instrument motif to communicate a welcoming, energetic and family-friendly community event.
Overview
The 2014 World Refugee Day Community Festival was a community event print design project created for MDA. The event promoted multicultural celebration, family activities, music, dance, workshops, international food stalls and community connection — and the printed promotional system needed to match that energy.
LovelyPixel designed the event poster and promotional postcard, creating a colourful visual identity that could attract public attention, communicate key event details clearly, and reflect the cultural energy of the festival.
The brief and the challenge
The artwork had to do several things at once: be eye-catching from a distance, easy to read quickly, warm and inclusive in tone, suitable for both large-format poster printing and smaller postcard distribution, and clear in communicating date, time, venue and event activities.
The approach
The design used a bright blue visual theme, decorative white flourishes, cultural photography and a central string-instrument motif to create a strong multicultural festival feel. The composition kept the title and date prominent while letting the cultural imagery and motif carry the emotional tone.
- Event poster design — large-format print-ready artwork
- Promotional postcard design adapted from the poster artwork
- Hierarchy of event information (date, time, venue, activities)
- Strong cultural imagery and instrument motif as visual anchor
- Print-ready files supplied at production specification

Why printed event marketing still works
Community festivals depend on word-of-mouth and physical print — flyers on community centre noticeboards, postcards handed out at partner events, posters in shop windows. Designing for that environment means designing for distance, quick reading and emotional pull, not just on-screen polish. The same craft applies to print design Brisbane and graphic design & print work across Australia.
Outcome
The final artwork provided MDA with a polished promotional design package for the World Refugee Day Community Festival, helping present the event as welcoming, energetic and family-friendly. The work demonstrates LovelyPixel's ability to design effective event posters, postcards and print marketing materials that balance strong visual impact with clear communication.
